14.07.2011: Research award to Greifswald Crash Research Team

77Dr. Gerrit Matthes and Dr. Matthias Frank, trauma surgeons and crash researcher at the University of Greifswald, received the German PHTLS Research award 2011. Their study on the „Estimation of blood loss at the scene of accident“ investigates correctness and variability of the estimated blood loss in a sample of academic and non-academic rescue team members. Dr. Gerrit Matthes on the consequences of the study results: „ Our study demonstrated a substantial misinterpretation of blood loss in injured emergency patients despite blood loss is a critical parameter within the broad spectrum of emergency medical interventions. We assume, that intensified continuous education - also in experienced rescue staff - helps to improve proper estimation and interpretation of injury predictors, even in the specific emergency setting”.
